Welcome
Dear colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the 13th International Conference on High Pressure Bioscience and Biotechnology (HPBB) that will take place at the University of Aveiro, in the wonderful and picturesque city of Aveiro, Portugal, from 31st of August to 03rd of September 2026.
The HPBB conference has been a meeting point connecting researchers working across Food Science, Biosciences and Biotechnology related to High Pressure, united by a shared interest in the effects and applications of this increasingly interesting Food and Life variable. We hope that the 13th HPBB continues this tradition, providing an enrichment and friendly environment for the exchange of ideas to promote research and discussion of emerging topics and Biotechnological applications involving High Pressure and Food and Life.
The University of Aveiro is a young and dynamic public university with a strong international projection and a well-established tradition in High Pressure research, particularly in Food Science and Biotechnology. It is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach, close ties between fundamental science and applied research, commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer to the industry, making it stimulating and welcoming environment to host the 13th HPBB.
Aveiro, often referred to as the “Portuguese Venice”, is a coastal city known for its canals, traditional moliceiroboats, and unique and distinctive Art Nouveau architecture. Beyond its scientific and academic environment, Aveiro region offers a strong connection to Portuguese culture, from its maritime heritage and cuisine to its welcoming atmosphere and pace of life, being the national centre of the famous and peculiar Portuguese codfish cuisine, supported by a dynamic industry in this field, having as pinnacle the yearly already internationally famous codfish festival taking place in Ílhavo, about 10 minutes away from the city of Aveiro (). We hope all this will provide an inspiring set up for fruitful scientific discussions, as well as opportunities for informal interaction and cultural discovery.
On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, we warmly invite you to participate in 13th HPBB. We look forward to welcoming you to Aveiro and to work to have a stimulating and wonderful conference that reflects both the scientific excellence of the HPBB community and the hospitality of Portugal.
